Location
The Autumn Border
Description:
Rarely seen hardy deciduous flowering shrub, 4m (13ft) high by 3m (10ft) wide, with arching branches, grown for the masses of three coloured, funnel-shaped flowers in late spring amid bright green toothed leaves. The genus is native to East Asia and Japan.
Site and Care:
Does best in full sun and fertile, well drained soil although it will tolerate part shade. Pruning should only be carried out after flowering. Older plants may need to be hard pruned every few years in early spring. Propagation is by half-ripe softwood cuttings with heel in summer or hardwood cuttings in winter.
