Viburnum carlesii 'Aurora'

Arrowood

Location

The Temple Garden

Description:

A hardy medium-large (2m x 2m) dense bushy deciduous shrub with ovate, irregularly toothed, dark-green leaves to 10cm (4in) long, often turning red in autumn. Exceptionally fragrant pink with red flowers 1cm (½in) across in domed, terminal corymbs to 8cm (3in) across followed by ellipsoid, red fruits 6mm (¼in) long, ripening to black.

Site and Care:

Does best in full sun or partial shade in moderately fertile well drained soil of any type although it does well enough in the Tennis Court Garden here where the soil is thin and chalky provided it is given a good winter mulch. Pruning is only necessary to maintain shape and should be carried out after flowering. Propagation is best by hardwood cuttings in late Autumn.
