A half-hardy perennial growing to about 60cm (2ft), native to Brazil and Argentina this plant is ideal for providing late summer colour in an informal garden settings with its upright spikes of fragrant bright purple or magenta flowers that appear in summer.
Site and Care:
Tolerates full sun and sandy, drought-prone soils although it prefers any humus rich and fertile well drained garden soil. Not always reliably hardy but they will happily self-seed from year-to-year. Cut back in autumn and divide tired clumps to propagate and mulch occasionally.
