Description:

A fully hardy biennial that will only live for two years although they usually self-seed freely. Statuesque spires, in excess of 2m (6 feet) of saucer-shaped, soft yellow flowers from June to August above rosettes of grey-green leaves perfect for a sunny border or cottage garden. There is a white variety V. chaixii 'Album' in the Tennis Court garden.

Site and Care:

Grow in well-drained, poor alkaline soil in full sun although they will benefit from a mulch around the base of the plant in autumn to protect from winter extremes but take care not to cover the crown. Propagation is by seed.
