Description:

A vigorous medium-sized, frost hardy, evergreen twining woody climber, native to East Asia and Japan, with glossy dark green, oval leaves 5-8cm in length and often turning deep red in winter; clusters of very fragrant white flowers 2.5cm in width become cream with age.

Site and Care:

Does best in full sun or dappled shade with shelter from cold, drying winds preferably on a south facing wall in very free draining neutral to alkaline soil. Maintenance pruning is done is spring, and consists simply of thinning out congested, weak or badly placed shoots. Propagate by layering in spring or from semi-ripe cuttings in summer and autumn.
