Hinton Ampner Garden

Tilia platyphllos rubra

Red broad-leaved Lime

The Old Tennis Court

Rare native red lime trees which left to their own devices would soar 100 feet in the air but here there's a line of 9 which are pollarded each winter giving them structure, shape and controlling there growth. Pollarding involves cutting back last season's growth to a 'knuckle' to maintain there shape.
