The Magnolia Garden

Deciduous, hardy, bushy spreading shrub, 3m (10ft) high by 3m (10ft) wide, with red shoots and tufts of dull green leaves that turn bright red in autumn. Small, bell-shaped, red-veined, creamy-yellow flowers in late spring. The genus is native to Japan.

Site and Care:

Does best in part shade and moist, peaty, acid soil. Pruning should be carried out after flowering to maintain shape and mulching is beneficial. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer or seed.
