Description:
Deciduous, hardy, bushy spreading shrub, 3m (10ft) high by 3m (10ft) wide, with red shoots and tufts of dull green leaves that turn bright red in autumn. Small, bell-shaped, red-veined, creamy-yellow flowers in late spring. The genus is native to Japan.
Site and Care:
Does best in part shade and moist, peaty, acid soil. Pruning should be carried out after flowering to maintain shape and mulching is beneficial. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer or seed.
