Description:

An early spring flowering, hardy, deciduous climber with nodding flowers like violet-blue lanterns, up to 5cm (2in) long, with white stamens in the centre. Ideal for growing up through shrubs and small trees.

Site and Care:

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots in shade and the stems, leaves and flowers in sun or partial sun. Plant the crown 5-7.5cm (2-3in) deep to encourage shoots to grow from below ground level. Keep the base shaded and cool. Plants are quite small and pruning is not essential. Propagate by layering or semi-hardwood cuttings
