Hinton Ampner Garden

Cestrum fasciculatum 'Newellii'

'Red Jasmine'

Location

The Dell

Description:

The beautiful crimson-red tubular, fragrant flowers are striking against the rich dark green lance shaped leaves in late spring or early summer. The flowers on this vigorous evergreen half-hardy shrub which can reach up to 3m (10 ft.) with an equal spread are followed by purple berries. In a bad winter frost may cause it to die back to the ground but it will usually grow back but is unlikely to flower in that year.

Site and Care:

Grow in full sun or partial shade on any type of soil. Pruning where required to maintain the shape of the plant should be undertaken after flowering. Propagation is by seed, layering or stem cuttings.
