Hinton Ampner Garden

Pileostegia viburnoides

The North Front of the House

A large, hardy, self-clinging, slow-growing, evergreen shrub, climbing by aerial roots, to 8m, with paired, leathery, narrowly elliptic leaves, to 15cm in length, and dense terminal panicles of small, creamy-white flowers.

Site and Care:

An ideal climber for a north wall but will grow on a wall facing any aspect so long as it is not very cold and the soil is fertile and well-drained of any type. No regular pruning required but may be trimmed in late winter. Propagate by layering or semi-hardwood cuttings.
