Description:

A medium sized, suckering, deciduous hardy shrub grown for its bright crimson stems in late autumn and winter. Creamy-white flowers in spring are followed by blue/white berries. Oval dark green leaves redden in autumn, then fall to reveal the brightly coloured stems.

Site and Care:

Fertile, light, well-drained soil of any type in full sun or partial shade. For the best coloured stems don’t prune in the first year, but after that, before budding (February/March), cut down to a woody base within 5-10cm of the ground every year. Feed and water well and bright new shoots will appear. Old plants can be regenerated by cutting out the old wood from the centre of the plant. Propagate by hardwood cuttings in winter.
